News Feed Latest Maritime & Drayage News Oct 22, 2019 UN/CEFACT Update: 34th UN/CEFACT Forum in London, England Since 2018, we have been continually reporting on our active participation in discussions hosted by the United Nations (UN) intergovernmental body dealing with global trade efficiency and the use of IT in the supply chain sector. The United Nations Center for Trade Facilitation and Electronic Business (UN/CEFACT) was established by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), and for decades has focused on the facilitation of national and international transactions through the simplification and harmonization of processes, procedures, and information flows, aiding the growth of global commerce. There are approximately 300 experts representing every region of the world contributing to UN/CEFACT projects, and we are excited to be a part of these discussions and share the latest information with our customers and partners. UN/CEFACT will be hosting its 34th conference in London, England between October 28 - November 1, 2019. Our VP, Rajiv Garg, will be in attendance in his position as Domain Coordinator of experts in international supply chain management. This event will feature 2 main topics for attendees, you can click on the titles for more detailed information: Single Window: Sharing Implementation Experiences and Best Practices Implementation of a Single Window has been proposed through the World Trade Organization as one of the key elements to implement within its Trade Facilitation Agreement. Countries all over the world have either implemented, in the process of implementing or studying future implementation. Creating a single-entry point for all import, export and transit related regulatory processes, ensuring that all relevant government agencies are involved, creating a clear and streamlined data model for all procedures is a very large task. This conference aims to bring together all those concerned with Single Window implementation. It will be set up to allow a number of countries to demonstrate their Single Window solutions, to explain the challenges faces and the success stories. Sufficient time will be allotted to allow exchanges between participants and implementors in order to explore the best practices. Facilitating Data Exchange - The Role of Web APIs The use of Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) to support international trade and transport processes is also growing fast and there is an important role for UN/CEFACT standards to help ensure that APIs are consistently implemented across different service providers. UN/CEFACT has already launched a number of projects that will help achieve that goal. However, web APIs do present a paradigm shift away from hub-centric document exchange towards a more dynamic consumption of data from a distributed web of different locations. Consequently, web APIs are not just a new technology for exchanging the same old documents - they are also disrupting established business models and bringing new business opportunities. The purpose of this Conference is to provide a non-technical audience with a sound understanding of how APIs work, where they are being used already, and what UN/CEFACT is doing about API standards. Specifically; An introduction to web APIs, resources, and events. Real examples of their use in the international supply chain. The UN/CEFACT RDM2API and API Town Plan projects and their relationship to existing UN/CEFACT products such as the Core Component Library. A future state vision for how trade, transport, financial, and regulatory processes can work together as a distributed suite of web APIs. By participating in these forums, we gain insight into evolving technologies and shape global standards that will help facilitate the supply chain and international trade. Jul 08, 2019 U.S. Customs Update: Electronic Reporting of All In-Bond Exports, Arrivals and Diversions Will Be Required Beginning on July 29th, 2019 Effective July 29, 2019, members of the trade community will be required to report all in-bond exports, arrivals and diversions electronically through the Automated Commercial Environment (ACE). Air shipments will continue to be exempt from these requirements and trade members can still request manual posting by Customs and Border Protection (CBP) for these shipments. CBP will no longer accept paper copies of the CBPF 7512 to perform arrival and export functionality. An ACE edit will issue a rejection if these actions are not performed. At this time, no date is set for implementation of the provision requiring the 6-digit Harmonized Tariff Schedule number requirement for Immediate Transportation movements.
